What is BICS?
The British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme provides electricity policy-cost relief to eligible manufacturers in Great Britain. It is not a grant for equipment or a reduction in electricity consumption.
When can I apply for BICS?
The published first-year window runs from 1 October to 30 November 2026, closing at 11:59pm. Decisions are expected in January 2027. Relief starts in stages from April and October 2027, subject to the scheme legislation. Check the official guidance for changes.
How does BICS reduce my bill?
It removes certain government charges from eligible electricity. Your saving depends on your site and tariff. It does not reduce the energy you use or guarantee a 25% saving.
What do I need to start?
Your company name. Una helps you check your site, products and electricity use. If you do not know an answer, ask for help or return to it later.
What evidence will I need later?
Site and product details, meter information and electricity bills for the latest six consecutive months available within the past year. Keep records separate for each site. You can add bills inside your private check and review the extracted information before accepting it.
What happens after my check?
See your preliminary result and what to prepare. Use your emailed return link to continue your saved check, add bills or request adviser support. You apply through the government service; Una does not submit an application here.
Can I check more than one site?
Yes. Check each manufacturing site separately. BICS covers England, Scotland and Wales, not Northern Ireland. Tell Una if you already receive British Industry Supercharger support.
What if I do not know my product code or electricity use?
Describe what your site makes and Una can help you find a product code to confirm. Use grid-supplied kWh from your bills, not your bill total in pounds. Estimates can help you explore the opportunity, but do not replace the evidence needed for an application.
How do I prepare my electricity records?
Keep bills for each manufacturing site together. Add the grid-supplied kWh across the required six consecutive months, checking for missing periods or duplicate meters. For example, 3,000 kWh in each of six months totals 18,000 kWh (18 MWh). This illustrates the unit conversion, not an eligibility decision.
Is Una the official BICS checker?
